You must be a CT resident to adopt one of our dogs. The first step is to complete our online Adoption
Application form, and submit it electroncally. It includes
important questions that we use to match a dog to your lifestyle
and family routine.
Once we review your application, we will see if one of our available dogs might be a good match for you. If you are selected from the many applications we receive for each dog, a volunteer will contact you
to conduct a phone interview. Next, we will arrange
for a CTGRR representative to visit your home and meet you so that we know that the dog you are interested
is going to be what you need and that your home is what he or
she needs. We will also speak with your vet to confirm that you have been a responsible pet owner in the past. If the dog is being fostered locally, you will have an opportunity to meet it prior to making a final commitment to the adoption.
Our adoption fee is $250. All of the dogs we place will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Note that there
may be an additional transport fee if a dog is coming from another
part of the country. All fees will be clearly identified prior to adoption.
The final step in the process is to have you sign an adoption
contract, and then your new Golden will be turned over to
you. You will be responsible for all future veterinary care, as
well as the proper licensing of your pet in your town.
Since we focus strictly on local dogs in need, we no longer have the volume of available dogs we once had when teaming with out of state rescue groups seeking New England homes for their needy dogs. If we do not have a dog for you, you can search for great dogs to adopt on Petfinder.com, or you can e-mail us for a referral to another rescue group and we will gladly point you in the right direction.
The IRS has classified us as a charitable non-profit 501(C)(3) corporation. Any fees collected or donations given to us are therefore tax-deductible. The cost of preparing a Golden for adoption always exceeds what little we ask for in fees, so we do welcome and appreciate any donations out of the goodness of your heart. |
